General Liability Insurance

Protects the assets of a person or business from suit due to injury or damage. Covered types of general liability insurance include bodily injury, property damage, personal injury, and damage from slander or false advertising. Compensatory damages are also normally included.

Insurers usually state within a general liability insurance policy the maximum amount payable during the policy period and payment per occurrence. The policyholder is responsible for any amount above and beyond those policy limits.

Though covered under most insurance policies, limits may run low, and additional general liability insurance may be needed to provide sufficient financial coverage. This usually comes in the form of an umbrella liability policy.
